Japanese Citizen Commits Suicide in Multan

A Japanese citizen allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a hotel building in Multan on Thursday, police said.

The man, later identified as Okumura Katfumi, jumped to his death from the third floor of a hotel situated in Multan's Tariq Road area, City Police Officer (CPO) Multan Ahsan Younas said.

The Japanese citizen was staying in the hotel as he was working on a project in Dera Ghazi Khan. Some 15-20 people from China and Japan are also staying in the same hotel.

Police shifted the man's body to Nishtar Hospital for postmortem.

The CPO said forensic evidence was collected from the incident site and an investigation into the death has been started.

Sources in the area told DawnNews a suicide note allegedly penned by Katfumi was found from the spot and it read: "I am very sad."

MUET Clerk Had Naila and Other Girls Objectionable Pictures, Videos

DADU: Police picked up on Wednesday a clerk working for the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) for interrogation over the mysterious death of Naila Rind, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room in Marvi hostel 11 days ago.

A team of Jamshoro police led by inspector Agha Tahir, SHO of Jamshoro town police station, raided a residential colony near MUET and arrested Agha Babar Pathan who was said to be a close friend of Anis Khaskheli.

Police took into custody Pathan’s laptop and mobile phone and found pictures of late Naila in addition to many video clips and pictures of the university’s female students saved on the gadgets’ data storage.
Khaskheli was the first to be arrested after the Naila Rind death hit headlines and became a high-profile case. He was arrested on the basis of mobile phone record of late Naila, a final-year student in the Sindhi department of Sindh University.

Like Pathan, police had found pictures of late Naila besides a large collection of video clips and photos of several other girls, most of them students of the university, on the suspect’s laptop and mobile phones.

Jamshoro SSP retired Captain Tariq Wilayat said that police laid hands on Pathan on the basis of information gleaned from Khaskheli. Police were closely investigating all the aspects of the case and its investigation of mobile phone and laptop data of the arrested suspects was in progress, he said.

He said that statements of three more wardens of Marvi hostel namely Mahjabeen, Zakia and Nusrat Talpur had been recorded and data of mobile phones of chairman of Sindhi department Anwar Figar Hakro, Marvi hostel’s provost Anila Soomro and warden Mahjabeen had been sought to help in the probe. He said that other staff members of the girls’ hostel and the Sindhi department would also be investigated.

Activists of Sindh United Party took out a rally here on Wednesday in protest against load-shedding of gas in residential areas of the city.

SUP leaders Mohammad Khan Channa, Niaz Hussain Panhwar and Baban Khan Surhio who led the rally said that SSGC officials of Dadu zone had given illegal gas connections to hotels, factories and influential persons which had caused reduction in the gas amount and its pressure, leading to long hours of load-shedding.

They said that when consumers complained about it, the SSGC officials started sending them heavy and inflated bills.

They warned they would continue the protest if the problems were not resolved.

Meanwhile, special teams of SSGC raided several places in the district and found 25 illegal connections in Khairpur Nathan Shah, Dadu and Mehar towns and sent complaints to the police stations concerned for the registration of FIRs.

First Time in Pakistan - Transgenders Will be Counted in Census

For the first time in the history of Pakistan, the country's transgender community will be included in the national population census.

The Lahore High Court on Monday instructed the federal government, National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and the interior ministry to include the transgender community in the census while hearing a petition filed by a transgender individual Waqar Ali in November 2016.

Ali in his petition had called for the enforcement of the community’s fundamental rights, including enrolment in the upcoming census and issuance of national identity cards specifying their gender.

A deputy attorney general from the federal government was present in court during the hearing and assured the court that the transgender community will indeed be part of the upcoming census.

Ali's petition, filed through Advocate Sheraz Zaka, had pleaded that the transgender community in Pakistan has been marginalised, citing an event witnessed in Sialkot where a transgender was tortured.

Pakistan's sixth population census will begin on March 15, 2017.

PTI Counsel To Contact NAB to Reopen Hudaibiya Paper Mills Case

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, during a hearing of the Panamagate case on Monday, advised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) counsel Naeem Bokhari to file a reference with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry to reopen the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case.

The judge was presiding over a five-member bench of the apex court when he said, "We can call the chairman of NAB and ask him why he did not fulfil his responsibilities."

Justice Khosa was referring to a case in which now Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had submitted a handwritten statement to a magistrate in 2000 alleging that the Sharif brothers had used the Hudaibiyah Paper Mills as a cover for money laundering during the late 90s.

In 2014, an accountability court judge had rejected an application filed by NAB requesting the reopening of the Hudaibiya Paper Mills and Raiwind Assets references.

As per a NAB investigation report on the Hudaibiya Paper Mills reference in 2014, the Sharif family had allegedly deposited ill-gotten money in bank accounts opened in other people’s names and used it to pay off loans of their companies.
The court observed that NAB had not given proper opportunity to the Sharif family to join the investigations and justify their assets.

Justice Khosa also admonished Bokhari for steering the focus of the case away from the London flats towards the Hudaibiya Paper Mills.

"First in the case you spoke about the London flats. Now, you have jumped towards the confessional statement of Ishaq Dar," he noted.

Justice Ejaz ul Hasan, too, pointed out to the counsel that his arguments had failed to make clear whether or not Maryam Nawaz is a dependent of her father.

Bokhari told the court that the London flats were bought under Maryam Nawaz's name between 1993 to 1996. He added that at the time of the transaction, Maryam Nawaz was underage and had no source of income.

The advocate alleged that Maryam Nawaz was made the beneficiary as a smokescreen, whereas the PM is the real owner of the flats.

He told the apex court that, in a similar manner, the PM set up mills in Jeddah and Dubai by using benami transactions.

Justice Khosa pointed out that the burden of proof lies with the PTI since they claim to have the evidence.

He added that it was the party's responsibility to show how the companies were bought, who made them and where the money came from.

Justice Khosa told Bokhari that if the Supreme Court sends the references regarding the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case to NAB, it will no longer be able to hold hearings on the Panamagate case in accordance with Article 184.

He further advised Bokhari that the responsibility was upon him to either separate the two cases or ensure that they are heard simultaneously.

Justice Ejaz ul Hasan, however, advised the advocate that if the two cases are joined, the Panamagate case will become 'muddy'.

Moonis Elahi Believes PM Nawaz Shari Bosnia Visit Is Badly Planned

Moonis Elahi Believes PM Nawaz Shari Bosnia Visit Is Badly Planned

The recent crash of a PIA plane in Havelian has angered the nation over the uncontrolled corruption and lack of funds for the national flag carrier. While the organization suffers from tremendous losses and bad management, most of its planes have been grounded and are restricted from flying until they pass the tests. Nawaz Sharif on the other hand fancied an excursion to Bosnia engaging a PIA Boeing 777 for 3 days. Moonis Elahi said the PM should have been wise and should've had respected the sentiments of the people he governs. PIA would suffer further losses and the people would face troubles on the route it was planned to cover.
While the purpose of the Bosnia visit is undefined it is most probably a personal visit with family and close aides. Senior members of PMLN should have advised the PM against the trip especially at a time when his government should be working to fix the problems within the PIA. Moonis Elahi said the trip is badly timed and announcement to engage a publicly used plane is even more insulting. PMLN has forgotten to serve the nation rather it demands the nation to serve them. They rule like kings which is even worse for a democratic country because it promotes corruption leading to the birth of many societal problems.

Woman dies ‘unattended’ on hospital floor in Lahore - Moonis Elahi Blames PMLN Bad Governance

PMLN, especially CM Mian Shahbaz Sharif is in power in Punjab for the last 9 years. While he enjoys the facilities of being a ruler of Punjab, the people who voted for him suffer miserably. A woman, named Zahra Bibi, 60 years old died today on the floor of Jinnah Hospital as she was unattended for the last 3 hours. She was laid out on the floor of the Medical Unit I because there was no vacant bed inside. Moonis Elahi lashed out on PMLN's poor governance saying the incumbent government was unable to provide treatment facilities to its own voters.

The woman was brought in from Kasur to Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) complaining of chest pain and the doctors diagnosed her of kidney pains. She was referred to the Services Hospital where doctors examined her and asked her male attendant to take her to Jinnah Hospital as they lacked the facilities needed for her treatment. Upon arrival at the Jinnah Hospital she was checked in the emergency and was admitted in the Medical Unit I. But since there was no bed available she was asked to lay outside here to breathed her last. Moonis Elahi expressed grief and sorrow over the misery of the woman she had to endure.

While Shahbaz Sharif is busy constructing roads, metro projects and failed power projects for billions of rupees, there is no plan in action over medical uplifting in Punjab. It seems Shahbaz Sharif thinks people as vehicles who only need roads to run on and as vehicles don't get repaired in hospitals, there is no need to spend any money on hospitals. MoonisElahi said during their time, Emergency Departments in hospitals all over Punjab were formed and they ensured all medications were free in them irrespective of how much it cost. They had also built new Cardiology hospitals in Multan, Faisalabad and Wazirabad.

Moonis Elahi said while they were also building roads and providing transportation facilities to the people, PMLQ had not ruled out health sector from their agenda as the PMLNhas done. As they rush to the UK to get treated, they have no concern over the plight of hospitals in Punjab. Every hospital in Punjab is in ruins and there are no uplifting plans or expansion plans as the population is increasing rapidly. Shortage of hospitals is leading to shortage of beds in the already operational hospitals. PMLN must build new hospitals equipped with modern technology to treat the patients in time of their arrival.
